Syed Waliullah was born on 15 August 1922 at Sholashahar in Chittagong. Syed Mujtaba Ali (Bengali: সৈয়দ মুজতবা আলী) was a Bengali author, academician, scholar and linguist.

Syed Mujtaba Ali was born in Karimganj district (in present-day Assam, India). In 1919, he was inspired by Rabindranath Tagore and started writing to the poet. In 1921, Mujtaba joined the Indian freedom struggle and left his school in Sylhet. He went to Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan and graduated in 1926. Zahir Raihan (Bangla: জহির রায়হান) was a Bangladeshi novelist, writer and filmmaker. He is perhaps best known for his documentary Stop Genocide made during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

Anisul Hoque (Bangla: আনিসুল হক) is a Bangladeshi screenwriter, novelist, dramatist and journalist. He graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, trained as a civil engineer.

His inspiration in journalism and writing started during his student life. After his graduation he joined to serve as a government employee but resigned only after 15 days. Instead he started working as a journalist. He attended the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 2010. Currently, Hoque is working as an Associate Editor of a Bengali language daily, Prothom Alo.

Gajendrakumar Mitra

Gajendra Kumar Mitra was born on 11 November 1908. He was a versatile writer. He wrote many novels, short stories, plays, essays and poems. Mitra also translated a few English novels into Bengali, such as Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities . He used to write with his left hand. He spent his childhood in a joint family set-up in the then East Bengal of undivided India and studied in Sonar Gaon Panam School. After the Partition, migrated to India. He earned his undergraduate degree in commerce in 1956 and subsequently earned a teacher's training degree, all from the University of Calcutta. He took various jobs as a sailor, truck-cleaner, primary school teacher. Also became headmaster of a senior basic school. Settled permanently in Kolkata in 1963. Here also he took on various jobs like factory manager, publication advisor and lastly journalist.

Malay Roy Choudhury (born 29 October 1939) is an Indian Bengali poet, playwright, short story writer, essayist and novelist who founded the Hungryalist movement in the 1960s.
Roy Choudhury was born in Patna, Bihar, India, into the Sabarna Roy Choudhury clan, which owned the villages that became Kolkata. He grew up in Patna's Imlitala ghetto, which was mainly inhabited by Dalit Hindus and Shia Muslims. His was the only Bengali family.
