Syed Waliullah was born on 15 August 1922 at Sholashahar in Chittagong. After completing his Bachelor’s from Ananda Mohan College in Mymensingh, he enrolled at Calcutta University but did not complete his Master’s. Proficient in both Bangla and English, he worked for the Statesman during 1945-1947. After the Partition, he moved to Dhaka and joined Radio Pakistan as assistant news editor. Syed Mujtaba Ali was born in Karimganj district (in present-day Assam, India). In 1919, he was inspired by Rabindranath Tagore and started writing to the poet. In 1921, Mujtaba joined the Indian freedom struggle and left his school in Sylhet. He went to Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan and graduated in 1926. He was among the first graduates of the university. Later, he moved to Kabul to work in the education department (1927–1929). From 1929 to 1932 he studied at the universities in Berlin, London, Paris and Bonn. He earned Ph.D. degree from University of Bonn with a dissertation on comparative religious studies in Khojas in 1932.

Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay (Bangla: বিভূতিভূষণ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়) was an Indian Bangali author and one of the leading writers of modern Bangla literature. His best known work is the autobiographical novel, Pather Panchali: Song of the Road which was later adapted (along with Aparajito, the sequel) into the Apu Trilogy films, directed by Satyajit Ray.

The 1951 Rabindra Puraskar, the most prestigious literary award in the West Bengal state of India, was posthumously awarded to Bibhutibhushan for his novel ইছামতী.

Zahir Raihan

Zahir Raihan (Bangla: জহির রায়হান) was a Bangladeshi novelist, writer and filmmaker. He is perhaps best known for his documentary Stop Genocide made during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

He was an active worker of the Language Movement of 1952. The effect of Language Movement was so high on him that he made his legendary film Jibon Theke Neya based on it. In 1971 he joined in the Liberation War of Bangladesh and created documentary films on this great event.

He disappeared on January 30, 1972 while trying to locate his brother, the famous writer Shahidullah Kaiser, who was captured and killed by the Pakistan army. Evidences have been found that he was killed by some armed Bihari collaborators and disguised soldiers of Pakistan Army.

Mahmudul Haque (Bangla: মাহমুদুল হক) was a contemporary novelist in Bangla literature. He was born in Barasat in West Bengal. His family moved to Dhaka after the partition in 1947. His novels deal with this pain of leaving one's home.

Mahmud gave up writing in 1982 after a number of acclaimed novels. Affectionately known as Botu Bhai and always seen as a lively figure in social gatherings, the rest of the time he was said to lead a solitary life.

Hasan Azizul Huq (Bengali: হাসান আজিজুল হক) is a Bangladeshi writer, reputed for his short stories. He was born on 2 February, 1939 in Jabgraam in Burdwan district of West Bengal, India. However, later his parents moved to Fultala, near the city of Khulna, Bangladesh. He was a professor in the department of philosophy in Rajshahi University.

গোলাম মোস্তফার জন্ম ১৮৯৭ সালে যশোর জেলার ঝিনাইদহ মহকুমার শৈলকূপা থানার অন্তর্গত মনোহরপুর গ্রামে। তাঁর পিতা ও পিতামহ ছিলেন সাহিত্যানুরাগী-ফারসী ও আরবী ভাষায় সুপণ্ডিত। তাঁর তিন পুত্রের মাঝে একজন হলেন বিখ্যাত পাপেটনির্মাতা ও চিত্রশিল্পী মুস্তফা মনোয়ার।

মুসলিম জাগরণের অগ্রদূত হিসেবে বাংলা সাহিত্যে তাঁর অবদান এক বিরল দৃষ্টান্ত। স্কুলজীবনেই এই কবির সাহিত্য প্রতিভার বিকাশ ঘটে। এ সময় তাঁর ‘আর্দ্রিয়ানোপল উদ্ধার’ কবিতাটি মাসিক মোহাম্মদী পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত হয়। তাঁর প্রথম কাব্য গ্রন্থ ‘রক্তরাগ’ প্রকাশিত হলে বিশ্বকবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর তাঁকে কবিতার মাধ্যমে অভিনন্দিত করেছিলেন।

Mahmudul Haque

Mahmudul Haque (Bangla: মাহমুদুল হক) was a contemporary novelist in Bangla literature. He was born in Barasat in West Bengal. His family moved to Dhaka after the partition in 1947. His novels deal with this pain of leaving one's home.

Mahmud gave up writing in 1982 after a number of acclaimed novels. Affectionately known as Botu Bhai and always seen as a lively figure in social gatherings, the rest of the time he was said to lead a solitary life.

Alexander Borisovich Raskin (Александр Борисович Раскин) Russian Soviet writer, satirist, screenwriter. The husband of the writer Frida Vigdorova.

He graduated from the Literary Institute (1938). E. Petrov greatly influenced his formation as a satirist and humorist .

He lived and worked in Moscow. In the 1940s, he worked for the Krokodil magazine. Many of Ruskin's unpublished epigrams were spread orally. Abul Hasan

কবি আবুল হাসান ছিলেন ষাট ও সত্তরের দশকে বাংলাদেশের প্রধান কবিদের একজন।

১৯৪৭ সালের ৪ আগস্ট গোপালগঞ্জ জেলার টুঙ্গিপাড়ার বর্ণিগ্রামে তাঁর জন্ম। এটি ছিল তাঁর মাতুলালয়। পৈতৃক নিবাস ছিল পিরোজপুর জেলার নাজিরপুরের ঝনঝনিয়া গ্রামে। বাবা ছিলেন পুলিশ অফিসার। নাম আলতাফ হোসেন মিয়া। আবুল হাসানের প্রকৃত নাম ছিল আবুল হোসেন মিয়া। কিন্তু আবুল হাসান নামেই তিনি লেখালেখি করতেন, আর এ নামেই স্মরণীয় হয়ে আছেন।

Anisul Hoque

Anisul Hoque (Bangla: আনিসুল হক) is a Bangladeshi screenwriter, novelist, dramatist and journalist. He graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, trained as a civil engineer.

His inspiration in journalism and writing started during his student life. After his graduation he joined to serve as a government employee but resigned only after 15 days. Instead he started working as a journalist. He attended the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 2010. Currently, Hoque is working as an Associate Editor of a Bengali language daily, Prothom Alo.

His novel মা was translated in English as Freedom's Mother. It was published in Maithili too. He was honored with Bangla Academy Award in 2011.
