Ashapurna Devi
Ashapurna Devi (Bengali: আশাপূর্ণা দেবী), also Ashapoorna Debi or Asha Purna Devi, is a prominent Bengali novelist and poet. She has been widely honoured with a number of prizes and awards. She was awarded 1976 Jnanpith Award and the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1976; D.Litt by the Universities of Jabalpur, Rabindra Bharati, Burdwan and Jadavpur. Vishwa Bharati University honoured her with Deshikottama in 1989. For her contribution as a novelist and short story writer, the Sahitya Akademi conferred its highest honour, the Fellowship, in 1994.

বশীর আল-হেলালের জন্ম মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলার তালিবপুর গ্রামের মীর পাড়ায় ১৯৩৬ সালের ৬ জানুয়ারি। ছোটবেলা থেকেই তিনি লেখালেখি করতেন। ১৯৫৬ সালে কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে দ্বিতীয় বিভাগে বাংলায় এম এ পাস করেন। তাঁর প্রথম গল্পের বই 'স্বপ্নের কুশীলব' কলকাতা থেকে প্রকাশিত হয়। ১৯৬৮ সালের শুরুর দিকে তিনি মাকে নিয়ে চলে আসেন ঢাকায়। তারপর ১৯৬৯ সালের শুরুতে সহ-অধ্যক্ষ হিসেবে নিযুক্ত হন বাংলা একাডেমিতে। ১৯৭১ সালে মুক্তিযুদ্ধে সক্রিয়ভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করেন। আর চব্বিশ বছর বাংলা একাডেমিতে কাজ করার পর ১৯৯৩ সালে পরিচালক পদে থেকে অবসর নেন।

Gajendra Kumar Mitra was born on 11 November 1908. He was a versatile writer. He wrote many novels, short stories, plays, essays and poems. Mitra also translated a few English novels into Bengali, such as Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities . He used to write with his left hand. His genuine love and concern for Bengali literature inspired him to co-found the famous Mitra and Ghosh Publishers. Mitra was childless. He died on 16 October 1994 in Calcutta (now Kolkata).
