Leela Majumdar

Leela Majumdar (Bengali: লীলা মজুমদার Lila Mojumdar) was a Bengali writer. Her first story, Lakkhi chhele, was published in Sandesh in 1922. It was also illustrated by her. The children's magazine in Bengali was founded by her uncle, Upendrakishore Ray Chaudhuri in 1913 and was later edited by her cousin Sukumar Ray for sometime after the death of Upendrakishore in 1915. Together with her nephew Satyajit Ray and her cousin Nalini Das, she edited and wrote for Sandesh throughout her active writing life. Until 1994 she played an active role in the publication of the magazine.

Zahir Raihan

Zahir Raihan (Bangla: জহির রায়হান) was a Bangladeshi novelist, writer and filmmaker. He is perhaps best known for his documentary Stop Genocide made during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

He was an active worker of the Language Movement of 1952. The effect of Language Movement was so high on him that he made his legendary film Jibon Theke Neya based on it. In 1971 he joined in the Liberation War of Bangladesh and created documentary films on this great event.

Pramathanath Bishi (1901-1985), a writer and educationist, was born on 11 June 1901 at Joari in Rajshahi, the son of Nalininath Bishi and Sarojbasini Devi. He studied for seventeen years at Brahma Vidyalaya in santiniketan, where he became closely acquainted with rabindranath tagore. Sanjib Chandra was born to an orthodox Brahmin family at Kanthalpara, North 24 Parganas. He was educated at Hooghly Mohsin College founded by famous Bengali philanthropist Muhammad Mohsin and Presidency College, Calcutta. He was one of the first graduates of the University of Calcutta.

Sanjib Chandra is widely regarded as a key figure in literary renaissance of Bengal as well as India. Some of his writings, including novels, essays and commentaries, were a breakaway from traditional verse-oriented Indian writings, and provided an inspiration for authors across India.

Gajendrakumar Mitra

Gajendra Kumar Mitra was born on 11 November 1908. He was a versatile writer. He wrote many novels, short stories, plays, essays and poems. Mitra also translated a few English novels into Bengali, such as Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities . He used to write with his left hand. His genuine love and concern for Bengali literature inspired him to co-found the famous Mitra and Ghosh Publishers. Mitra was childless. He died on 16 October 1994 in Calcutta (now Kolkata).

Atin Bandyopadhyay (Bangla: অতীন বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়; anglicised spelling of surname: Banerjee) is a noted writer of Bengali literature. He was born in 1934 in Rainadi, Dhaka.

He spent his childhood in a joint family set-up in the then East Bengal of undivided India and studied in Sonar Gaon Panam School. After the Partition, migrated to India. He earned his undergraduate degree in commerce in 1956 and subsequently earned a teacher's training degree, all from the University of Calcutta.
