Shankar's real name is Mani Shankar Mukherjee. Sankar is a very popular writer in the Bengali language. He grew up in Howrah district of West Bengal, India.
Shankar's father died while Shankar was still a teenager, as a result of which Shankar became a clerk to the last British barrister of the Calcutta High Court, Noel Frederick Barwell. Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay (Bengali: শরদিন্দু বন্দোপাধ্যায়; 30 March 1899 – 22 September 1970) was a well-known literary figure of Bengal. He was also actively involved with Bengali cinema as well as Bollywood. His most famous creation is the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi.
He wrote different forms of prose: novels, short stories, plays and screenplays. However, his forte was short stories and novels. Samaresh Majumdar

Samaresh Majumdar (Bangla: সমরেশ মজুমদার) was a well-known Bengali writer. He spent his childhood years in the tea gardens of Duars, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, India. He was a student of the Jalpaiguri Zilla School, Jalpaiguri. He completed his bachelors in Bengali from Scottish Church College, Kolkata. Tarapada Ray (Bengali: তারাপদ রায়) was a Bengali writer of poems, short stories, and essays. He is especially known for his satirical sense of humour. He was born on November 17, 1936 in Tangail, now in Bangladesh. He lived in Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal till his death on August 25, 2007.

অবধূত (১৯১০ - ১৩ এপ্রিল, ১৯৭৮) বা কালিকানন্দ অবধূত ছিলেন একজন বিশিষ্ট ভারতীয় বাঙালি ঔপন্যাসিক ও তন্ত্রসাধক। তাঁর প্রকৃতনাম দুলালচন্দ্র মুখোপাধ্যায়। জন্ম কলকাতার ভবানীপুরে। পুত্র অমল মুখোপাধ্যায়ের জন্মের পর প্রথমা স্ত্রীর মৃত্যু হলে উজ্জয়িনীর মহাকাল মন্দিরে সন্ন্যাস (অবধূত) গ্রহণ করেন। সন্ন্যাসজীবনে তাঁর নাম হয় কালিকানন্দ অবধূত। সন্ন্যাসজীবনে তাঁর ভৈরবী স্ত্রীও ছিল। হুগলি জেলার চুঁচুড়ায় স্বপ্রতিষ্ঠিত রুদ্রচণ্ডী মঠে তাঁর মৃত্যু হয়।

Gajendrakumar Mitra

Gajendra Kumar Mitra was born on 11 November 1908. He was a versatile writer. He wrote many novels, short stories, plays, essays and poems. Mitra also translated a few English novels into Bengali, such as Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities . He used to write with his left hand. His genuine love and concern for Bengali literature inspired him to co-found the famous Mitra and Ghosh Publishers. Mitra was childless. He died on 16 October 1994 in Calcutta (now Kolkata).

Atin Bandyopadhyay

Atin Bandyopadhyay (Bangla: অতীন বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়; anglicised spelling of surname: Banerjee) is a noted writer of Bengali literature. He was born in 1934 in Rainadi, Dhaka.

He spent his childhood in a joint family set-up in the then East Bengal of undivided India and studied in Sonar Gaon Panam School. After the Partition, migrated to India. He earned his undergraduate degree in commerce in 1956 and subsequently earned a teacher's training degree, all from the University of Calcutta. He took various jobs as a sailor, truck-cleaner, primary school teacher. Also became headmaster of a senior basic school. Settled permanently in Kolkata in 1963.
