Lil Bahadur Chettri was an Indian writer in the Nepali language from Assam. He was a recipient of Sahitya Academy Award for his book Brahmaputrako Chheu Chhau. His other book Basain is a story of poor villagers who undergo suffering due to the exploitation of the feudal and so-called upper class of the society. Saru Bhakta (Nepali: सरु भक्त) is the pen name of Bhakta Raj Shrestha, a celebrated Nepalese novelist and poet and a winner of Madan puraskaar, the most prestigious literary honour in Nepal. Diamond Shumsher Rana (डायमनशमशेर राणा) was born at Tansen Durbar in Palpa, where his grandfather, Sher Shumshere Jung Bahadur Rana, was governor. His father Buddha Shumshere Jung Bahadur Rana was a colonel in the Royal Nepal Army.Rana enjoyed a privileged upbringing and was a captain in the Royal Nepal Army. In 1948 Rana travelled to Benaras, India and had his first novel Basanti published. Hari Bhakta Katuwal was born on 2 July 1935 in Dibrugarh, Assam. In India, he used to write poems under the name Prabasi (transl. Non-resident). He moved to Kathmandu to pursue his writing career after being invited by King Mahendra.
Noted for his writing style, he published many poems including Bhitri Manche Bolna Khojch, Yo Zindagi Khai Ke Zindagi, and Samjhana.
He also wrote lyrics that have been sung by Narayan Gopal, Amber Gurung, and Aruna Lama.
In 2015, documentary "Ani Hari Bhakta Farkiyenan" about Katuwal's life was released. In 2017, a play was staged at the Sarwanam Theatre based on his poems for his 82nd birth anniversary. In 2021, a life-size statue of Katuwal was erected at Jaigaon near the Indo-Bhutan border.
