Joost van den Vondel (1587 – 1679) was a Dutch author, poet and playwright. The most prominent Dutch poet and playwright of the 17th century, he is considered the national poet of the Netherlands. His play Gijsbrecht van Aemstel (1637) was performed annually on New Year's Day from 1637 to 1968, and remains one of the Netherlands most famed plays.

His first published work was a volume of poetry titled Paddestoelen ("Mushrooms") under the pen-name Ton Ven. It was not particularly well received.

Ingrid Winterbach is a South African author who primarily writes in Afrikaans. She is married to Andries Gouws and has two daughters. She lives in Durban.

She was born in Johannesburg in 1948. She studied Afrikaans, Dutch and Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand. Lettie Viljoen's first novel was entitled Klaaglied vir Koos ("Lament for Koos"), and was published in 1984. As Lettie Viljoen she published Erf 1986, Belemmering 1990, Karolina Ferreira 1993 (translated into English by the author herself: The Elusive Moth 2005), and Landskap met vroue en slang 1996. Pieter Omtzigt (1974) is a Dutch politician. He has served as a member of the Dutch House of Representatives since June 3rd, 2003. In his political work, he focused on matters of taxes and pensions, and rose to prominence after standing up for affected parents in the the childcare benefits scandal, which ultimately led to the fall of the third Rutte cabinet in January 2021.

Omtzigt studied economics and statistics in Exeter and Rome and obtained his PhD in Florence, with a dissertation titled 'Essays on cointegration'. Since 2003, Omtzigt was member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), but left in 2021 and continued as independent member of parliament. In August 2023, he founded a new party called New Social Contract.

Basuki Gunawan (1929-2014) was an Indonesian-Dutch writer, born in the Dutch East Indies. After WWII, he joined the Tentara Pelajar (‘Student Army’) to fight Dutch attempts to recolonise Indonesia. Anna Bijns

De vader van Anna Bijns (1493-1575), Jan Bijns, was kousen- (of eigenlijk broeken-)maker en wellicht ook rederijker. Anna bracht haar jeugd door in het huis ‘De Cleyn Wolvinne’ aan de Grote Markt (nu nummer 46). Ze had een zuster, Margriete (geboren in 1495) en een broer, Marten (geboren in 1497).
