After Kluun's wife died of cancer, he started to write down his experiences in his first book "Komt een vrouw bij de dokter" ("A woman visited her doctor" - translated into English as "Love life") which wasn't well received by the critics, but sold 500.000 copies in the Netherlands. He also wrote a sequel called "The widow".
"The widow" was followed up by a book called "Help I inpregnated my wife" which deals with the experiences of a man during the pregnancy of his wife.

Gerard Reve was een Nederlands schrijver en dichter. Samen met Harry Mulisch en W.F. Hermans wordt hij gerekend tot De Grote Drie: de drie belangrijkste Nederlandse schrijvers van na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
