Forugh Karimi

Forugh Karimi (1971, Kabul) kwam als 25-jarige op de vlucht voor de oorlog in Afghanistan in Nederland terecht. Ze vervolgde hier haar studie geneeskunde en heeft inmiddels een eigen praktijk als psychiater en psychotherapeut. Ze is daarnaast hoofdredacteur van De Psychiater (het tijdschrift van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Psychiatrie) en maakt deel uit van de Raad voor de Nederlandse Taal en Letteren.

In 2022 debuteerde Karimi met De moeders van Mahipar – bekroond met de Hebban Debuutprijs – waarna in 2023 de novelle Nargis verscheen. Met In mijn ogen draag ik wolken laat ze opnieuw zien een unieke bijdrage te leveren aan het Nederlandse literaire landschap.

Grete Weil

Grete Weil was born in Munich in 1906, the daughter of a Jewish lawyer. When the Nazis came to power, she emigrated to Holland with her husband, the playwright and director Edgar Weil. In 1941, Edgar was arrested; he later died in a concentration camp. Grete went into hiding, and it was then that she began to write, first theater pieces, then fiction. After the war, she returned to Germany, and eventually settled near her native Munich, where she lived from 1947 until her death, at age 93, in 1996. She was the author of five novels, a memoir, and several collections of short fiction. The German original of Aftershocks was first published in Zurich in 1992.

Nino Haratischwili

Nino Haratischwili (Georgian: ნინო ხარატიშვილი) is a Georgian-born German novelist, playwright, and theater director.

Haratischwili was born and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she attended a German-language school. To escape the political and social chaos that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union, she moved to Germany for two years in the early 1990s with her mother, where she attended the seventh and the eighth grade of school. Her family returned to Georgia afterwards. Haratischwili later moved to Germany again in order to attend drama school in Hamburg. She became a German citizen in 2012.
