Leopoldo García-Alas y Ureña (25 April 1852 – 13 June 1901), also known as Clarín, was a Spanish realist novelist born in Zamora. He died in Oviedo.

Alas spent his childhood living in León and Guadalajara, until he moved to Oviedo in 1863. There he studied for the Bachillerato (B.A. degree) and began his law studies. Joanot Martorell

Joanot Martorell (1413 – 1468) was a Valencian knight and the author of the novel Tirant lo Blanch, written in the Valencian vernacular (Martorell calls it vulgar llengua valenciana) and published at Valencia in 1490.

It deals with the adventures of a knight in the Byzantine Empire. Miguel de Cervantes in the book burning scene of Don Quixote considers it the best chivalry novel. Ramón Pérez de Ayala

Ramón Pérez de Ayala y Fernández nació en Oviedo el 9 de agosto de 1880. Era hijo de don Cirilo Pérez de Ayala, oriundo de Tierra de Campos (Valdenebro de los Valles en Valladolid), y de doña Carmen Fernández Viña o Doña Luisa Fernández del Portal, de Asturias, concejo de Valdés-Luarca, su madre murió cuando él era pequeño. Fue bautizado en la iglesia de San Isidoro. A los nueve años ingresó en el colegio de jesuitas de San Zoil, en Carrión de los Céspedes, Palencia. Dos años más tarde pasó al colegio de la Inmaculada Concepción, en Gijón.

Xavier Benguerel

Xavier Benguerel (Barcelona, 1905-1990), escriptor i traductor. Resideix al barri del Poblenou de Barcelona fins als 33 anys. L'any 1929 s'incorpora a la novel·la catalana amb Pàgines d'un adolescent. Des d'aleshores escriu més de vint novel·les, un recull de poemes, tres obres de teatre, quatre reculls de narracions i dos llibres de memòries. Abans de la guerra civil espanyola ja havia publicat la novel·la Suburbi (1936), ambientada al barri obrer del Poblenou, ara pràcticament desaparegut per la transformació dels Jocs Olímpics del 1992. En acabar la guerra, s'exilia a Xile fins al 1954. Antonio Quilis

ANTONIO QUILIS (Larache, Marruecos, 1933 - Madrid, 2003), ha sido uno de los más prominentes filólogos del último siglo y una de las mayores autoridades en fonética de la lengua española.
Se licenció y doctoró en Filología Románica en la Universidad de Madrid. Catedrático en la Universidad de Sevilla y luego en la Universidad de Valladolid. Desde 1975 hasta su jubilación estuvo vinculado a la cátedra de Lengua Española de la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. Entre sus múltiples cargos cabe destacar también el de director de la Revista de Filología Española y el de encargado del Laboratorio de Fonética Experimental del CSIC, entre otros muchos.
