Chairil Anwar was one of the famed figures of the “1945 Generation,” that group of luminaries who brought heat and light to Indonesian literature in the formative years of the new nation.
Through his poetry, Chairil Anwar succeeded in infusing Indonesian verse with a new spirit and bringing a new enthusiasm to Indonesia’s cultural arena. He also provided friends and acquaintances with never-ending tales to tell of his personal eccentricities, including his hobby of stealing books from the shops, his tendency to plagiarize from foreign poets, his many lovers, his numerous ailments, and his bohemian lifestyle.

Syed Hussein Alatas (September 17, 1928 – January 23, 2007) was a Malaysian academician, sociologist, founder of social science organizations, and former politician. He was once Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaya in the 1980s, and formed the Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan). Syed Hussein wrote several books on corruption, multi-racialism, imperialism, and intellectual captivity as part of the colonial, and post colonial, project, the most famous being The Myth of the Lazy Native.

Shahnon Ahmad
Dato' Haji Shahnon bin Ahmad (born 1933 in Sik, Kedah) is a Malaysian writer, a National Laureate, and a former Member of Parliament. He was awarded with the National Literary Award in 1982. He is also a Professor Emeritus at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang.

Shahnon has written a number books, one of the most notable being Shit @ PukiMak @ PM (1999), a controversial political satire. Masa mudanya dihabiskan di Surakarta. Pada masa ini ia sudah menulis sejumlah karya yang dikirimkan ke majalah-majalah. Kesukaannya menulis ini berkembang saat ia menempuh kuliah di bidang bahasa Inggris di Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta.
Sejak tahun 1974 ia mengajar di Fakultas Sastra (sekarang Fakultas Ilmu Budaya) Universitas Indonesia, namun kini telah pensiun. Ia pernah menjadi dekan di sana dan juga menjadi guru besar. Pada masa tersebut ia juga menjadi redaktur pada majalah "Horison", "Basis", dan "Kalam".

Eka Kurniawan was born in Tasikmalaya in 1975 and completed his studies in the Faculty of Philosophy at Gadjah Mada University.
