Robert W. Merry was born in 1946 in Tacoma, WA. He served three years in the U.S. Army, including two years as a counterintelligence special agent in West Germany. He graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1968 and earned a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1972.

K. Jack Bauer
A specialist in naval history, Jack Bauer earned his BA at Harvard University in 1946 and an MA in 1949 and a Ph.D. in 1953 from Indiana University. He worked at the National Archives as an archivist and as an historian with the U.S. Marine Corps Historical Branch and the Naval History Division before taking an assistant professorship at Morris Harvey College in 1961.
