Virginie Despentes
Virginie Despentes is a French writer, novelist and filmmaker, born in Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle. Her most famous novel, and film of the same name is Baise-moi, a contemporary example of the exploitation films genre known as rape and revenge films. Her most recent biographical, non-fiction work, King Kong Theory has also been translated into English, and recounts her experiences working within the French sex industry, and attendant infamy and praise associated with the aforementioned Baise-Moi.

Her first novel, Putain, enjoyed immediate critical and media success and was a finalist for both the Prix Médicis and the Prix Fémina. Afterwards, Arcan wrote several short stories, opinion pieces and columns for various Quebec newspapers and literary magazines.
Arcan was found dead in Montreal on September 24, 2009. According to the Montreal police spokeperson, the cause of the author's death is not yet known, but they are treating it as a suicide. She had just finished writing her last book, Paradis clés en main. -

Natasha Kanapé Fontaine (born 1991) is an Innu poet and actress. Born in Pessamit, Quebec, Fontaine first became noticed in 2012 as part of the Montreal poetry scene. Her first poetry collection, Do Not Enter My Soul in Your Shoes, earned her the 2013 Prize of the Society of Francophone Writers of America; her second, Manifeste Assi, was released in 2014 and debuted at the Étonnants Voyageurs festival. In 2016 she was a guest of honour at the Rimouski Book Fair, alongside Deni Ellis Béchard; the same year, the National Film Board of Canada announced funding for 3 projects as part of the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Canada, including #Legacies150, a photo-essay series Fontaine is contributing to.

Julie Delporte
Born in Saint-Malo, France, in 1983, Julie Delporte lives in Montreal, where she publishes books and zines. Journal, a collection of her journal comics, was published by Koyama Press in May 2013. In 2011–2012, she was a fellow at the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, Vermont. She has published a French children’s book (Je suis un raton laveur), as well as some short pieces at L’employé du Moi (Belgium) and in various anthologies. She was the former organizer of Montreal’s forty-eight-hour comics festival and newsprint anthology, and she runs the comics-centric radio show Dans ta Bulle. Colored pencils and dogs with long ears are her favorite antidepressants.

France Théoret, poète, romancière et essayiste, est née à Montréal en 1942. Elle y a fait des études primaires, secondaires et un brevet de pédagogie à l’École normale Cardinal-Léger (1957-1959). Après une année d’enseignement au niveau primaire (1960-1961), elle a obtenu un baccalauréat ès Arts du Collège Marie-Anne Annexe (1965) et une licence ès lettres de l’Université de Montréal (1968). Elle a étudié à l’École pratique des hautes études à Paris de 1972 à 1974.
