J.M.A. Biesheuvel

J.M.A. Biesheuvel (Schiedam, 1939) debuteerde in 1972 met de verhalenbundel In de bovenkooi. Daarna volgden talloze bundels, altijd bestaande uit korte verhalen en novellen, waaronder De weg naar het licht, De angstkunstenaar, De verpletterende werkelijkheid, Reis door mijn kamer en kleinere uitgaven als Motje tegen gloeiend lampepeertje en Oude geschiedenis van Pa. In 2008 verscheen zijn Verzameld werk, bestaande uit al het gebundelde werk.

Biesheuvels verhalen zijn veelal autobiografisch van inslag. Hij schrijft over zijn ervaringen als matroos op koopvaardijschepen, over zijn depressies en zijn verblijf in wat hij 'het gekkenhuis' noemt, over zijn vrouw Eva, over zijn huis en werkkamer, over zijn jeugd. Milan Kundera

Milan Kundera (1 April 1929 – 11 July 2023) was a Czech and French novelist. He went into exile in France in 1975, acquiring citizenship in 1981. His Czechoslovak citizenship was revoked in 1979, but he was granted Czech citizenship in 2019.

Kundera wrote in Czech and French. He revises the French translations of all his books; people therefore consider these original works as not translations. Born Iosif Solomonovich Grossman into an emancipated Jewish family, he did not receive a traditional Jewish education. Jan Wolkers

Jan Hendrik Wolkers was a Dutch author, sculptor and painter.

Wolkers is considered one of the "Great Four" writers of post-World War II Dutch literature, along with Willem Frederik Hermans, Harry Mulisch and Gerard Reve (the latter authors are also known as the "Great Three"). He became noted in the 1960s mainly for his strikingly direct descriptions of sex.

His 1969 novel Turks Fruit was translated into ten different languages and published in English as Turkish Delight. Jan Hendrik Frederik Grönloh was born in Amsterdam, the oldest of four children. After an idealistic youth, he joined the Holland–Bombay Trading Company in 1904, becoming director in 1926, suffering a nervous breakdown leading to a short hospitalization in 1927, and retiring at age fifty-five, on December 31, 1937; he married Aagje Tiket (b. 1883) in 1906 and had four daughters with her, born in 1907, 1908, 1909, and 1912. Meanwhile, as Nescio (Latin for “I don’t know”; he adopted a pseudonym so as not to jeopardize his business career, acknowledging his authorship publicly only in 1929), he wrote what is now considered perhaps the best prose in the Dutch language.

Hermine Heijermans

Hermine Marie Leendert Heijermans (1902-1983) was a Dutch stage actress, author and politician. She was the daughter of playwright Herman Heijermans and, under the name Minny Heijermans, performed in her father's company, the Tooneelvereeniging, from 1921 to 1938. After the Second World War she remained active as a comedian. Heijermans is best remembered as an author: she wrote several novels and a biography about her father. In 1976 she edited the ‘Boekenweekgeschenk’ titled “Snikken en smartlapjes”. In the 1960s and ’70s she was a columnist for Sekstant, the magazine of the NVSH. Heijermans was also member of the Amsterdam city council on behalf of the CPN.

Cornelis Buddingh' (roepnaam: Kees) was een Nederlands dichter, prozaïst en vertaler. Hij dankt zijn bekendheid vooral aan de gedichten De blauwbilgorgel (1943) en Pluk de Dag (1966).
