Hasrizal holds a Bachelor of Sharia (Honours) from Mu’tah University, Jordan (2001). He is the Director of Education at Khalifah Education Foundation which operates Khalifah Model Schools in Malaysia. An educator and learning designer, blogger, and author, advocate children-centered learning, parenting, and domestic policy.

His father, syekh Abdul Karim Amrullah, known as Haji Rasul, led and inspired the reform movement in Sumatra. In 1970's, Hamka was the leader of Majelis Ulama Indonesia, the biggest Muslim organizations in Indonesia beside Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah. Asghar Ali Engineer was an Indian reformist-writer and activist. Internationally known for his work on liberation theology in Islam, he lead the Progressive Dawoodi Bohra movement. The focus of his work was on (and action against) communalism and communal and ethnic violence in India and South Asia.
