  Ante Slobodan Novak was a Croatian writer and novelist. He is best known for his novel "Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh" (1968), often listed as one of the best Croatian novels of the 20th century.

  Herta Müller was born in Niţchidorf, Timiş County, Romania, the daughter of Swabian farmers. Her family was part of Romania's German minority and her mother was deported to a labour camp in the Soviet Union after World War II.
  
  She read German studies and Romanian literature at Timişoara University. In 1976, Müller began working as a translator for an engineering company, but in 1979 was dismissed for her refusal to cooperate with the Securitate, the Communist regime's secret police. Initially, she made a living by teaching kindergarten and giving private German lessons.

  Eric Alfred Havelock was a British classicist who spent most of his life in Canada and the United States. He was a professor at the University of Toronto and was active in the Canadian socialist movement during the 1930s.   Hanibal Lucić (1485., Hvar – 1553., Hvar) rodio se u imućnoj plemićkoj obitelji, a obavljao je poslove i dužnosti hvarskoga suca, odvjetnika, branitelja plemićkih prava protiv zahtjeva pučana i izaslanika Velikog vijeća u Mlecima.
  
  Lucić je kritički uništio veći dio svoga stvaralaštva, a nevelik mu je opus objavljen tek nakon smrti.
  
  Stvarao je vješto, u duhu petratkističko-trubadurskoga pjesništva - prema stranim (Ovidije, Petrarca, Bembo, Ariosto), ali i prema domaćim uzorima (Džore Držić) i osobito prema narodnom stihotvorstvu.
  
  Zahvaćen renesansnim duhom, Lucić je oko 1530. počeo nedaleko od grada graditi svoj renesansni ljetnikovac. Umro je u Hvaru i pokopan u obiteljskom grobu u crkvi franjevačkog samostana.
