Carmen Naranjo

Escritora. Una de las mujeres que más ha influido en el desarrollo de la narrativa costarricense de tema urbano. Premio Aquileo J. Echeverría 1966 y 1971. Premio Magón 1986.

Carmen Naranjo nació en la ciudad de Cartago el 30 de enero de 1928. En la Escuela República del Perú, en San José, hizo sus estudios de enseñanza primaria, en el Colegio Superior de Señoritas los de la secundaria y los universitarios en la Universidad de Costa Rica, en donde obtuvo el título de licenciada en Filología. Realizó estudios de postgrado en las universidades Autónoma de México y de Iowa, Estados Unidos.

Bohumil Hrabal

Born in Brno-Židenice, Moravia, he lived briefly in Polná, but was raised in the Nymburk brewery as the manager's stepson.

Hrabal received a Law degree from Prague's Charles University, and lived in the city from the late 1940s on.

He worked as a manual laborer alongside Vladimír Boudník in the Kladno ironworks in the 1950s, an experience which inspired the "hyper-realist" texts he was writing at the time.

His best known novels were Closely Watched Trains (1965) and I Served the King of England. In 1965 he bought a cottage in Kersko, which he used to visit till the end of his life, and where he kept cats ("kočenky").

E.M. Forster

Edward Morgan Forster, generally published as E.M. Forster, was an English novelist, essayist, and short story writer. He is known best for his ironic and well-plotted novels examining class difference and hypocrisy in early 20th-century British society. Ágota Kristóf was a Hungarian writer, who lived in Switzerland and wrote in French. Kristof received the European prize for French literature for The Notebook (1986). She won the 2001 Gottfried Keller Award in Switzerland and the Austrian State Prize for European Literature in 2008.

Μαρία Ιορδανίδου

Maria Iordanidou
Γεννήθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το 1897 και έζησε τα παιδικά της χρόνια στον Πειραιά και το Βατούμ της Ρωσίας. Φοίτησε σε ρωσικό γυμνάσιο, στη Σταυρούπολη, όπου τη βρήκε η Οκτωβριανή Επανάσταση. Το 1919 γύρισε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και λίγο αργότερα πήγε στην Αλεξάνδρεια, όπου παντρεύτηκε τον Ιορδάνη Ιορδανίδη. Το 1923 επέστρεψαν μαζί στην Αθήνα, αλλά σύντομα ο Ιορδανίδης έφυγε.

Jalal Al-e Ahmad
