Brian grew up in the area around the Liverpool docks, where he attended St. John's School, an inner city school featuring a playground on its roof. At the age of ten, his very first day at St. John's foreshadowed his future career as an author; given an assignment to write a story about animals, he wrote a short story about a bird who cleaned a crocodile's teeth. Brian's teacher could not, and would not believe that a ten year old could write so well. When young Brian refused to falsely say that he had copied the story, he was caned as "a l -
Naomi Novik
An avid reader of fantasy literature since age six, when she first made her way through The Lord of the Rings, Naomi Novik is also a history buff with a particular interest in the Napoleonic era and a fondness for the work of Patrick O’Brian and Jane Austen. She studied English literature at Brown University, and did graduate work in computer science at Columbia University before leaving to participate in the design and development of the computer game Neverwinter Nights: Shadow of Undrentide. Over the course of a brief winter sojourn spent working on the game in Edmonton, Canada (accompanied by a truly alarming coat that now lives brooding in the depths of her closet), she realized she preferred writing to programming, and on returning to

Tui T. Sutherland
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Tui? What kind of name is that? Is it short for something?

Nope. Among the many great things to come out of New Zealand (the Lord of the Rings movies, cats that paint, my mom) is a bird called the tui—not as well known as the kiwi, but a heck of a lot noisier!
I was born July 31 (same birthday as Harry Potter!) in Caracas, Venezuela, and lived in Asuncion, Paraguay; Miami, Florida; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, before moving to New Jersey in high school, where I started doing theatre—mostly backstage work, because (a) it was fun, and (b) you got to hang out in the dark with cute boys. (Er, I mean . . . because it was artistically fulfilling, yes.)
I graduated from Williams College in ’98 and I curren -

P.C. Keeler
Born in the far-off days of the Second Millennium, P.C. Keeler spends his days writing detailed instructions for very dim but precise silicon brains to follow and finds it a relaxing change of pace to write more conversationally for charming, handsome, intellectual readers like you. He enjoys past, present, and future, preferably all at once. Steampunk and Ren Faires work well for this.

Currently residing in the wilds of Fairfield County, Connecticut, he grew up in New Hampshire and as such has never quite gotten used to sales tax. His first published work was a short poem printed by a local newspaper at the tender age of six. Him, that is. The newspaper was considerably more well-established. He has continued writing since, most recently ap -
Steven De Luca
I live near Edinburgh, Scotland. Some of my favourite authors are Anne McCaffrey, David Gemmell, Raymond Feist, Philp K Dick and Brandon Sanderson. Too many to list! I've loved writing and self publishing my novel, "Bound in Scales" and learned so much from the process.

From an early age I was an avid reader and always believed I had a story to tell. I mentioned this to my friend, Chris... probably a lot. One day he said to me, "You keep telling me you have a book in you, why don't you just write it?" I accepted his 'challenge' and wrote a novel. A big novel. over 200k words. I looked at it as a practice run and I plan to revisit it. It needs some TLC and a lot of editing. However, I found I had a passion for writing and from the ashes of m -

Saylor Ferguson
Saylor Ferguson has been writing stories featuring animals for longer than she can remember. To this day, she's a firm believer that there just aren't enough creature fantasy tales, and she has made it one of her life goals to remedy this issue. When not writing tales of dragons, griffins, birds, or wolves-- or some combination of the four-- she can be found hawking, fishing, or hiking. Along with one grumpy guinea pig, Saylor lives in North Carolina, where she finds great inspiration in the natural beauty and varied wildlife.
