Nicolet Steemers werd geboren in Hengelo (O), studeerde gitaar aan het Twents Conservatorium en belandde via het vertalen van toneelstukken en de journalistiek in het schrijversvak. Ze brak door met het boek Zachte heelmeesters (2007), waarin een moeder vermoedt dat haar tienerdochter ernstig gemanipuleerd wordt. Daarna verschenen Lichtval (2010), over een disfunctionele toneelfamilie, en Overspel (2011), het boek bij de gelijknamige televisieserie. Zachte heelmeesters en Lichtval werden beide ook in Duitsland gepubliceerd. Het boek Tweedracht, waarin tweelingzussen door omstandigheden lijnrecht tegenover elkaar zijn komen te staan, verscheen in juni 2015 bij Uitgeverij De Geus.
