Selanik göçmenlerinden işçi bir ailenin yedi çocuğundan birisi olarak 8 Ocak 1948'de Bursa'da doğan Arkadaş Z. Özger (Zekai Özger) ilk ve orta öğrenimini de burada tamamlamıştır. Daha sonra SBF'nin Basın Yayın Yüksekokulunu bitirmiştir (1970). 5 Mayıs 1973'te öldüğü zaman TRT'de televizyon kurgucusu olarak çalışıyordu. Ölüm sebebinin beyin kanaması sonucu olduğu, bununsa, 12 Mart öncesi SBF baskını sırasında ve bunun ardından yediği ağır darbelerle sonradan ortaya çıktığını yakın çevreleri ve ailesi açıklamış bulunuyor.
