How I rate:
I don't compare across genres. So I don't think, oh, that book I just read isn't as good as Pride and Prejudice when that book is advice on car maintenance. If it's a piece of comedy, I compare it to other comedies and ask myself if the book stood up to the claims on the cover. If it's a short book, I don't compare it to long books I've read. Has it fulfilled the purpose within the constraints set out by the author? These things would help get a five star rating. -
