Although I have only found the courage later in life to try my hand at penning fiction, writing has always been a part of who I am. For a large part of my working life I was a writer and editor for numerous academic institutions and not-for-profit organizations, where I covered an exciting range of topics from nanotechnology to philosophy and from virtual reality to Seeing Eye dogs. My motto is it's never too late to pursue a dream. At age fifty eight I enrolled for a PhD in Anthropology and Sociology and five years later was awarded my doctorate. During this period I fell in love with research and now having left behind my professional obligations I continue to research and write for my own pleasure. I am an ex-pat Brit living in Israel on

Orly Krauss-Winer
I was born in 1959, in Israel, the eldest child of parents who immigrated from different parts of the world. My father came from Hungary after World War II, and my mother from Uzbekistan, after a long, ten-year journey with her family through the desert, by way of Afghanistan, India, and Sri-Lanka. My sixth book was about my father's family history, their brave and special story of survival through the Holocaust, and I dedicated my eleventh book to the story of the hardships endured by my mother's family in the desert.

An ardent bibliophile (she can remember as a teenager carrying around a copy of young adult historical fiction author Ann Rinaldi's gripping Civil War tale, The Last Silk Dress, and reading it between rides at Disney World because she didn't want to wait until she got back to her hotel room to finish it) it came as a surprise to no one when she became a librarian. Julie currently works as an academic librarian in the Pittsburgh area.

As a proud British royalist, I've been fascinated with the English monarchy - from the early days of the War of the Roses, through the Tudor era, the trials and triumphs of England during World War II, and the current royal House of Windsor.
In researching England, I've developed a strong passion for the brave women of World War II. What they did was nothing short of heroic - sending their husbands and sons off to fight, dealing with rationing, long queues, and the terror of bombing and its aftermath while looking after the home. And starting in -
