William Henry Harbaugh received his A.B. degree at the University of Alabama, his A.M. at Columbia University, and his Ph.D. at Northwestern University. A veteran of World War II, he taught at the University of Maryland, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Virginia. His biography of John W.
