Valerie was born in Australia and has lived there for most of her life. Although she doesn’t have a broomstick, she has traveled to most parts of the world, and she is now trying to organize her life so that she never has to experience another winter. She used to live with a big black cat exactly like Wilbur, but luckily her house was not black.

Born on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands in 1949, she attended the Canterbury College of Art (now the University for the Creative Arts) and received first-class BA Honors. I'm an illustrator who loves making books. I've had a few different jobs over the years, but my favourite before this one was making pizzas. If you can think of it, I have probably tried it on a pizza. Chips work surprisingly well as a topping. Donuts, not so much.

Sven Nordqvist

Sven Nordqvist (born 30 April 1946) is a Swedish writer and illustrator of children's books. He is best known for his series Pettson and Findus, about an old farmer, Pettson, and his talented cat, Findus.

Nordqvist was born in Helsingborg and grew up in Halmstad, Sweden. He originally wanted to be an illustrator but was rejected by several art schools. Instead he studied architecture at Lund Institute of Technology, and worked for a time there as a lecturer in architecture. At the same time he continued to look for work as an illustrator working on advertisements, posters and picture books. In 1983 he won first prize in a children's book competition and since then has worked exclusively as an author and illustrator of children's books.

Marta Altés

Marta Altés is an award-winning author and illustrator. She studied graphic design in Barcelona and after working there as a graphic designer for almost five years, decided to pursue her interest for illustration that she had since she was a child. Marta moved to the UK to study for an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, and graduated in 2011.

Nadia Shireen

Nadia was always destined for a career in illustration—as a child, she would doodle on her exercise books, while as a student she would doodle on her law degree notes. Judith Kerr

I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married.

Born in rural Norfolk, I have been drawing and writing since I was a small child. Inspired by artists and storytellers like Edward Lear, Eric Carle and David Mckee, I produced many poems, stories and pictures, which I would turn into books.
