Es escritor, periodista y abogado. Estudió en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, donde se graduó en Letras y Derecho y luego se desempeñó como catedrático en la Facultad de Derecho. Ha ejercido el periodismo en prensa gráfica, radio y televisión realizando coberturas sobre terrorismo, narcotráfico y campañas electorales.
Ha sido editor de las revistas "Debate" y "Semana Económica" del Grupo Apoyo (1988-1990), editor de la revista cultural "El Suplemento" (1990-1992), editor general del diario "Expreso" (1991-1992), director del programa televisivo "Panorama" (1993-1996) y director del quincenario "Cero" (2006).
