Thersa Matsuura

My name is Thersa Matsuura. I’m a Clarion West 2015 graduate and recipient of the HWA’s Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Scholarship. My most recent publications are Black Static, Dark Regions Press’ Madhouse Anthology, and the Fortean Times. I have a story forthcoming in Alessandro Manzetti’s THE BEAUTY IN DEATH anthology. My short story collection (A ROBE OF FEATHERS AND OTHER STORIES) was published by Counterpoint LLC.

I’m a long-term expat and have lived half my life in a small fishing town in Japan. I'm fluent in Japanese and use this to research parts of the culture that are unfamiliar to a western audience. I then spin this information into my own short fiction.

Junji Ito

Junji Itō (Japanese: 伊藤潤二, Ito Junji) is a Japanese cartoonist and illustrator, best known for his horror manga.
Ito was born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan in 1963. He was inspired to make art from a young age by his older sister's drawing and Kazuo Umezu's horror comics. Until the early 1990s he worked as a dental technician, while making comics as a side job. By the time he turned into a full time mangaka, Ito was already an acclaimed horror artists.

Ryū Murakami

Ryū Murakami (村上龍) is a Japanese novelist and filmmaker. He is not related to Haruki Murakami or Takashi Murakami.

Murakami's first work, the short novel Almost Transparent Blue, written while he was still a student, deals with promiscuity and drug use among disaffected Japanese youth. Critically acclaimed as a new style of literature, it won the newcomer's literature prize in 1976 despite some observers decrying it as decadent. NATSUO KIRINO (桐野夏生), born in 1951 in Kanazawa (Ishikawa Prefecture) was an active and spirited child brought up between her two brothers, one being six years older and the other five years younger than her. Banana Yoshimoto

Banana Yoshimoto (よしもとばなな or 吉本ばなな) is the pen name of Mahoko Yoshimoto (吉本真秀子), a Japanese contemporary writer. She writes her name in hiragana. (See also 吉本芭娜娜 (Chinese).)

Along with having a famous father, poet Takaaki Yoshimoto, Banana's sister, Haruno Yoiko, is a well-known cartoonist in Japan. Growing up in a liberal family, she learned the value of independence from a young age.

Icy Sedgwick is a writer based in the north east of England. She writes Gothic-tinged not-quite-YA fantasy novels and Gothic short stories. Icy is also working on a series of experiments in historical fiction with Australian composer AJ Moon, combining spoken word stories with originally composed music.
