Yelena Akhtiorskaya was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1985 and immigrated to Brighton Beach, Brooklyn at age 7. She holds an MFA from Columbia University. She is the recipient of a Posen Fellowship in Fiction for emerging Jewish writers, and her writing has appeared in n+1, The New Republic, Electric Literature, Tablet, Triple Canopy and elsewhere. She lives in New York City.

Louise Bernice Halfe

Louise Halfe is known in Cree as Sky Dancer. She was born on the Saddle Lake First Nation reserve in Alberta in 1953. At the age of seven, she was sent away to Blue Quills Residential School in St. Paul, Alberta. She left home of her own accord when she was sixteen, breaking ties with her family and completing her studies at St. Paul's regional high school. It was at this time that she began writing a journal about her experiences.

Halfe's first book of poetry, Bear Bones and Feathers, won the Milton Acorn People's Poet award, and was a finalist for the Spirit of Saskatchewan Award, the Pat Lowther Award and the Gerald Lampert Award.

Her second book, Blue Marrow was short-listed for the Governor General Award as well as the Book of the Year

Rita Wong

Rita Wong is the author of four books of poetry: monkeypuzzle (Press Gang, 1998), forage (Nightwood Editions, 2007), sybil unrest (Line Books, 2008, with Larissa Lai) and undercurrent (Nightwood Editions, 2015). forage was the winner of the 2008 Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize and Canada Reads Poetry 2011.

Wong is an associate professor in the Critical and Cultural Studies department at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design on the unceded Coast Salish territories also known as Vancouver.
