Simon de Waal

Na het Spinozalyceum begon Simon de Waal (1961) zijn carriere bij de Amsterdamse politie als agent. Sinds 1986 is hij er rechercheur in de binnenstad, met als specialiteit zware misdrijven.

In 1991 werd zijn interesse voor het scenarioschrijven gewekt toen hij gevraagd werd als adviseur bij een speelfilm. Van Ben Verbong leerde hij vervolgens de basis van het vak. Sindsdien is Simon de Waal een van Nederlands meest succesvolle scenario-schrijvers: hij schreef voor de series Baantjer, Russen, Unit 13 en het vernieuwde Grijpstra & De Gier, was auteur van de film Lek (waarvoor hij een Gouden Kalf won voor het beste scenario van 2000).
