She was raised in a house built in 1765 which wasn't haunted in the traditional sense but was so overstuffed with books— good and bad ones— that it had the effect of haunting Hunt all the same. Cathy Coote is an Australian author who was born in 1977. She attended Narrabundah College and Australian National University.
She was awarded the Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year award in 1995 and the Canberra Times Young Writer of the Year award, in 1993 and 1995.

Cathy Coote, who grew up in Australia, the daughter of two doctors, told the ACT Writers Centre: "I have [been writing] ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil."
