Sandra J. Howatt

Sandra grew up in Massachusetts on a dirt road near the top of a steep hill, not far from the Atlantic Ocean. She spent a lot of time walking and biking up and down that steep hill and she also spent a great deal of time making up stories.

Before she learned to read, she looked at a book’s illustrations, made up her own stories to go with them and “read” them aloud to anyone who would listen. Once she actually could read, she found a perfect reading spot by the small square window on the front hall stairs. She dove into book after book and cozied up inside until someone or something insisted she come out. She wishes she had kept an exact count of those books because she thinks it might be a rather impressive number.

Janet Ahlberg

Janet Ahlberg (1944-1994) was a British children's book illustrator, and the co-creator, together with her husband Allan Ahlberg, of the best-selling Jolly Postman series. Born as Janet Hall in Yorkshire in 1944, she studied at Sunderland Technical College, where she met Ahlberg.
