Rubem Fonseca

He is an important brazilian writer (novelist, short story writer and screenwriter), born in Juiz de Fora, state of Minas Gerais, but he lived for most of his life in Rio de Janeiro. In 1952, he started his career in the police and became a policy commissioner. Even though, he refuses to do interviews and is a very reclusive person, much like Thomas Pynchon, who is a personal friend of Fonseca.
His writing is pretty dark and gritty, filled with violence and sexual content, and it usually happens in a very urban setting. Sandro Veronesi

Graciliano Ramos

Graciliano Ramos was widely considered one of the most important Brazilian authors of the 20th century. He was a seminal voice in the literary "regionalism" movement.
As a child Ramos lived in many cities of Northeastern Brazil, stricken by poverty and severe weather conditions (droughts). After high-school, Graciliano went to Rio de Janeiro where he worked as a journalist. In 1915 he traveled to Palmeira dos Indios, state of Alagoas, to live with his father and in 1927 he was elected mayor.

João Ubaldo Ribeiro

Jornalista, escritor e argumentista brasileiro nascido a 23 de Janeiro de 1941, na Ilha de Itaparica, Bahía.
