I do it because it gives me joy, whether it’s playwriting, or in the last dozen years, writing books. Like a lot of people, I’m told, I threw away my first attempts at books—maybe two medium length novels. I hope readers come away from my stories knowing something they didn't know before, having been entertained, and wishing it didn't have to come to an end.

Cat Clayton was a gypsy in a past life. In her current life, she’s a wife, a mother, a writer, and an artist. She writes best with gallons of coffee, Goldfish, Raisinettes, and dill pickle slices. Although, usually not all at once. Writing from somewhere in Texas, she loves to put her amateur sleuths into precarious situations, force them to stumble upon dead bodies, help them solve the whodunits. Think Murder, She Wrote, but with a contemporary & humorous chick-lit vibe. (Oh, and at least one hot cop.)

I BELIEVE in the power of story. As a developmental editor and former director of the Stanford Publishing Courses, I’ve spent a lifetime digging out, poring over, and working with stories—the best of which have profoundly touched me and changed my worldview. Such stories—powerful, evocative and absorbing—have been instrumental in motivating me to finish my own novel Pescadero.

Pescadero is a work of fiction. The characters and story arc are imagined, but the descriptions of what today’s migrants experience as they attempt to cross America’s southern border are largely true.

I have this one reviewer, out of a dozen, that is very eager to explain his ideas. I told him I'll need to credit him in a future book with some basic character developments. His ideas are pretty good. His name is Enrico and he's an NYPD first grade detective. Just to give you perspective, NYPD has around 40,000 officers and employees and there are only 200 first grade detectives.
So, stay tuned. It's going to get very hot in here!

Growing up as an only child until I was nine had a lot to do with making me a storyteller. I wasn’t really alone because I had my imagination and spent loads of time there.
I also had Grandma and she did two amazing things for me. She told me stories of her own and she listened to mine. I’d sit at the table in her warm kitchen and kick my toes under my chair because my feet didn’t yet touch the floor. I'd talk while Grandma listened with a twinkle in her eye behind her rimless glasses. Because of Grandma I love to tell stories.
In the eighth grade I had a teacher named Mrs. Mahon. I was a restless, troublesome student. Then she assigned a writing project and I wrote several pages without a restless moment -
