His early career was devoted to traditional animation and background design, most notably for the 2015 Oscar-nominated animated feature film Song of the Sea. He is also the illustrator of A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea; The One with the Waggly Tail; and Sally Go Round the Stars, all by Sarah Webb. The Wilderness is his author-illustrator debut and was inspired by the freedom of his homeschooled childhood. Steve McCarthy lives in southeast London.

Yvonne Jagtenberg (Tilburg 1967) studeerde na haar pabo-studie aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. Tonke Dragt
Tonke Dragt werd in 1930 geboren in Nederlands-Indië, en heeft daar het grootste deel van haar jeugd doorgebracht. In 1942 kwam ze met haar moeder en twee zusjes terecht in een Jappenkamp, en daar heeft ze ontdekt dat ze ze kon ‘ontsnappen’ door verhalen te verzinnen. Ze schreef en tekende in eerder gebruikte uitgegumde schriftjes en zelfs op wc-papier, want er was bijna niets. Samen met een vriendinnetje maakte ze het ‘boek’ De jacht op de Touwkleurige.
Na de oorlog kwam het gezin naar Nederland. Tonke deed hier haar eindexamen van de middelbare school en ging naar de academie voor beeldende kunsten. Ze werd tekenlerares. Als de orde in haar klas verstoord dreigde te raken, begon ze altijd een verhaal te vertellen. En dan werd het muisstil.

Ayano Imai
Born in London, England, in 1980, Ayano Imai spent much of her youth traveling the globe with her family. From 1986 to 1990, she lived in Japan then relocated to the United States, splitting time between Connecticut and Los Angeles. After returning to Japan in 1994, she studied Japanese painting, specifically mineral pigment painting, at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. While there, she developed an interest in illustration. From 2003–2006, she participated in the illustration exhibition at the Bologna Book Fair. Her first picture book was published in 2006. She now lives in Chiba, Japan.
