  Nguyễn Công Hoan quê ở làng Xuân Cầu, xã Nghĩa Trụ, huyện Văn Giang, tỉnh Hưng Yên (thời ấy thuộc tỉnh Bắc Ninh). Ông sinh trong một gia đình quan lại xuất thân Nho học thất thế.
