Tariq Ramadan

Tariq Ramadan is the son of Said Ramadan and Wafa Al-Bana, who was the eldest daughter of Hassan al Banna, who in 1928 founded the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Gamal al-Banna, the liberal Muslim reformer is his great-uncle. His father was a prominent figure in the Muslim Brotherhood and was exiled by Gamal Abdul Nasser[3] from Egypt to Switzerland, where Tariq was born.

Paul Frederic Bowles grew up in New York, and attended college at the University of Virginia before traveling to Paris, where became a part of Gertrude Stein's literary and artistic circle. Following her advice, he took his first trip to Tangiers in 1931 with his friend, composer Aaron Copeland.

In 1938 he married author and playwright Jane Auer (see: Jane Bowles). He moved to Tangiers permanently in 1947, with Auer following him there in 1948. Gabrielle Wittkop

Gabrielle Wittkop (née Menardeau) (1920-2002) was a French writer. She was born in Nantes. She married Justus Wittkop, a Nazi deserter, in Paris and moved with him to Germany in 1946 after the end of the Second World War.

Iraj Pezeshkzad (1928 in Tehran - 12 January 2022 in Los Angeles) was an Iranian writer and author of the famous Persian novel "Dā'i Jān Napoleon" (دایی جان ناپلئون) (Uncle Napoleon, translated as "My Uncle Napoleon") published in the early 1970s.

Iraj Pezeshkzad was educated in Iran and France where he received his degree in Law. He served as a judge in the Iranian Judiciary for five years prior to joining the Iranian Foreign Service. Agustín Gómez Arcos

Agustín Gómez Arcos (Agustin Gomez-Arcos in France) was a Spanish writer, anarchist and dramatist born in Almería, Andalusia. He studied law but quit university for theater. However, some of his work was banned in Franco's Spain. Because of censorship Gómez Arcos emigrated to London in 1966, then to Paris in 1968, where he settled and wrote primarily in French, often with themes condemning the fascist Spanish state. He died in Paris of cancer.

Gómez Arcos won the Hermès Prize for his 1975 novel The Carnivorous Lamb, the Livre Inter prize, the Roland Dorgelès Prize and the Thyde Monnier Prize for his 1977 novel Ana No, and he was twice a finalist for the Prix Goncourt.

Basem Khandaqji

Basem Khandaqji (Arabic: باسم خندقجي) is a Palestinian writer, journalist, and prisoner, was born in 1983. His novel A Mask, the Color of the Sky won the Arabic Booker Prize in 2024.
He has studied at An-Najah National University and Al-Quds University. He was arrested by the Israeli defence forces on November 2, 2004, and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He has published several novels, poems, and studies from prison.

Mohammed Khair-Eddine

Mohammed Khair-Eddine was amongst the most famous Moroccan literary figures of the 20th century. Born in 1941 in Tafraoute, as a young writer he joined the circle of writers known as the Amitiés littéraires et artistiques in Casablanca. In 1964 Khair-Eddir founded the "Poésie Toute" movement. In 1965 he was exiled to France where he spent years working in factories. In 1967 he started publishing again, writing for "Lettres nouvelles" and "Présence africaine". Rashid Boudjedra, رشيد بوجدرة, (born September 5, 1941, Aïn Beïda, Algeria) prolific and revolutionary Algerian writer whose first novel, La Répudiation (1969; The Repudiation), gained notoriety because of its explicit language and frontal assault on Muslim traditionalism in contemporary Algeria. Because of that work, Boudjedra was hailed as the leader of a new movement of experimental fiction.
