Michelle Robinson

When I'm not up to my knees in nappies, I write children's books. I also spend a fair amount of time eating chocolate. I try to write funny, read-aloud books that parents will enjoy as much as children - after all, if you have to share the same stories umpteen times, you may as well enjoy them.
I hope you like my books enough to read them umpteen times. Thank you - Michelle.

Libba Bray
What is it about writing an author bio that gives me that deer-in-headlights feeling? It's not exactly like I'm going to say "I was born in Alabama…" and somebody's going to jump up and snarl, "Oh yeah? Prove it!" At least I hope not.

I think what gets me feeling itchy is all that emphasis on the facts of a life, while all the juicy, relevant, human oddity stuff gets left on the cutting room floor. I could tell you the facts–I lived in Texas for most of my life; I live in New York City with my husband and six-year-old son now; I have freckles and a lopsided smile; I'm allergic to penicillin.
But that doesn't really give you much insight into me. That doesn't tell you that I stuck a bead up my nose while watching TV when I was four and thought -

I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. Mary and I would argue about which of us would marry him).
Mary and I were always creating imaginary characters and mimicking real ones, and I used to write shows and choreograph ballets for us. A wind-up gramophone wafted out Chopin waltzes.
I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married.
Busking and books
Before Malcolm and I had our three sons we used to go busking together and I would write special songs for each country; the best one was in Italian about pasta.

Maria Kuutti
Olen syntynyt 1980 ja elänyt suurimman osan elämästäni Kangasniemellä. Lapsuuteni asuin kyläkoulua vastapäätä ja tiesin kuulemma jo ekaluokkalaisena haluavani opettajaksi. Myös kirjoitusinto näkyi pienenä, sillä alaluokan opettajani kutsui minua runotytöksi. Äitini työskenteli pitkään kirjastovirkailijana, joten kirjat ovat kuuluneet aina merkittävänä osana elämääni.

Lukion jälkeen halusin opiskella kirjoittamista ja kirjallisuutta. Pääsin Helsingin yliopistoon ja opiskelin siellä yleistä kirjallisuustiedettä. Veri veti kuitenkin takaisin Kangasniemelle, joten viimeistelin maisterinopintoni Jyväskylässä. Minusta tuli äidinkielenopettaja vuonna 2005.
