Leyland Perree

Leyland Perree is a freelance children’s’ author. His illustrated picture books include Frog on the Log, The Goat that Gloats and Toad’s Road Code, all of which have achieved success on an international scale.

He has worked as a graphic designer, an engineer, a T-shirt printer, a sign-maker, a customer service advisor for a television company, at a local newspaper, in a factory making replica roman coins, in another factory specialising in handmade industrial rubber goods, and is now a typesetter within the training industry.

He didn’t get the job of making authentic replica WWII flight jackets, which he still thinks would have been pretty darn cool.

Leyland lives in Devon with his wife, son and a menagerie comprising largely of frogs.

Mary and I were always creating imaginary characters and mimicking real ones, and I used to write shows and choreograph ballets for us. A wind-up gramophone wafted out Chopin waltzes.

I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married.

Oliver Jeffers
