Laura Diane hield altijd al van lezen en schrijven. Als tiener schreef ze vooral gedichten en fanfiction over haar favoriete boyband. Maar met de ontdekking van de Twilight Saga, gevolgd door The Hunger Games en Divergent ontstond haar liefde voor het Young Adult genre. Geïnspireerd door deze dystopische verhalen besloot ze in het najaar van 2013 zelf een boek te gaan schrijven. En dat bleef niet onopgemerkt.
