In 1966 Evans was admitted to City College of New York, which accepted all his credits from Brown University. Pat Parker was an American poet and activist. Both her poetry and her activism drew from her experiences as an African-American lesbian feminist. Her poetry spoke about her tough childhood growing up in poverty, dealing with sexual assault, and the murder of a sister.

Norman Boutin was born on October 17, 1948. He considers himself "Franco-American," with great grandparents from Quebec. He has spoken of how when "[he] was a little boy the French were still being sneered at as dumb frogs who could only work jobs in the textile mills which drew [his people] down here from [their] miserable Quebec farms in the first place."
