Josep Fontana

Josep Fontana nació en Barcelona, en 1931. Su padre era propietario de una librería de viejo. Estudió en esa ciudad, donde se licenció en Filosofía y Letras, sección Historia, por la Universidad de Barcelona en el año 1956. Se doctoró en Historia por la misma universidad en 1970. Es uno de los historiadores de más prestigio de España. Fue alumno de Jaime Vicens Vives y Ferrán Soldevila. Sus principales corrientes de investigación son la Historia económica, la Historia española del siglo XIX y la Historia de la hacienda. Han influido en su pensamiento E.P. Thompson, Pierre Vilar, Gramsci y Walter Benjamin.1 Fue militante del PSUC desde 1957 hasta principios de la década de 1980.
