José Luis Martín Vigil

Nació el 28 de octubre de 1919 en Oviedo, en el seno de una familia acomodada. Cursó estudios de Ingeniería Naval, Humanidades y Teología tras realizar el bachillerato en el Colegio Superior de los Padres Jesuitas. Durante la Guerra Civil, se pasó a la zona nacional. En 1953 fue ordenado sacerdote de la Compañía de Jesús.

Fue capellán de varios colegios mayores y el director de organizaciones católicas en la universidad.

Tras publicar varios libros de tema religioso, a principios de los sesenta y con un éxito editorial sin precedentes, abandonó definitivamente la Orden. Apareció regularmente en programas divulgativos y Televisión Española le ofreció, dentro de uno de sus clásicos programas de interés cultural, una serie de espacios analizando
