In the early 70s, I wrote stories, a four-act closet drama, a novella, and an unfinished (memoir) novel. I had then spent two years nurturing the ambition to become an author of some repute. But the going was tough, creating a feeling of insecurity for the future. In time, I shelved the idea and got a job as a hospital porter. I later did a BA (Eng. & Edu.). After a summer job at a psychiatric hospital, I decided to do a 4-term course for mental-health carers, Following that I would complete the first of two stages of psychotherapy education and several short courses in cognitive therapy. My newest book tells the little-known story of the courageous people who chose a life in one of the most inhospitable North American environments in their determination to escape slavery. Written as historical fiction, the true story of over 2,000 freedom seekers who established homes and communities deep in The Great Dismal Swamp is presented. While each day was a struggle to survive in the swamp, the formerly enslaved established vibrant communities and developed an economy that supported multi-generational families. As one swamp resident said, "The worst day in this terrible swamp is much better than the best day I ever experienced as a slave."

Leta Serafim
The daughter of an itinerant scientist, I was born in Wisconsin, spent the first years of my life in San Diego, before moving to Washington, D.C. when NASA was created and my father went to work for that agency. A genuine rocket scientist, he served there for twenty-five years in many capacities— Director of Unmanned Space, Director of Astronomy, Associate Administrator and Chief Scientist, and supervised the American missions to Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter. Our house was always littered with models of space ships and missiles and our guests at Thanksgiving spoke about ‘thrust and payload’ in a multitude of tongues, it being my father’s firm belief that the language of American science was ‘broken English.’

A.K. Cooper-Elliot
I live in Yorkshire with my husband, mother and dog. Retiring early from a high-flying executive role gave me the freedom to create my stories. I enjoy writing romance and thriller novels in the comfort of my home office. My favourite time is when my dog finds her comfy place under the desk, particularly on my feet. It is quite soothing especially in winter!

Elizabeth Ruth
Elizabeth Ruth is a Utah native, self-published author. From a young age, she always had an active mind, which was constantly making up stories. Years passed without being able to express that creative side until she read a book that sparked the fire inside her. She read book after book after book and fell in love with the adventures she went on. The work of other authors encouraged her to share her own. Most of her time is spent raising her four young children with her husband of twelve years in Salt Lake City, Utah. But you can often find her avoiding responsibilities, with her nose stuck in a book, or daydreaming about the plot of her next creation.

An allotment. A bench. A grieving man. An asylum seeker on the run. An intimate, sharply relevant story that unfolds in the stillness between two people who should never have met, and yet desperately need each other.
Walter and Osama aren’t just characters, they’re reflections of two worlds colliding in quiet resistance. There’s heartbreak here, but also defiant kindness. The emotional stillness, the subtle tensions, the questions of belonging, grief, and trust, readers say this is the kind of novel that lingers in the soul long after the final page.
My first novel 'Whenever' was published in 2017 on my 70th birthday when I won the Novel Prize with Cinnamon Press. My second 'Random Three' came out with the Book Guild in summer 2020. 'Where Ar -

Lia Russ
Lia Russ was born high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in a town so small that only three other children were born that year. Perhaps because of the sparseness of human population and the vastness of the natural world, Lia learned to open her senses to connect with the energies of everything around her.

It wasn't until she moved to Westchester County, New York, (at age nine) that she began to realize she was different from other children. Between her sensitivities to energy and a discovery that she was dyslexic, Lia feared that she would never fit in. She grew to dislike her differences, and because there was no support, she began to feel like she was irrevocably stupid and despaired about what life would be like for her as an adult.
