Hugh Lofting
Hugh Lofting was a British author, trained as a civil engineer, who created the character of Doctor Dolittle — one of the classics of children's literature.
Lofting was born in Maidenhead, England, to English and Irish parents. His early education was at Mount St Mary's College in Sheffield, after which he went to the United States, completing a degree in civil engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He traveled widely as a civil engineer before enlisting in the Irish Guards to serve in World War I. Not wishing to write to his children of the brutality of the war, he wrote imaginative letters that were the foundation of the successful Doctor Dolittle novels for children. Ingri d'Aulaire
Ingri d'Aulaire (1904-1980) was an American children's artist and illustrator, who worked in collaboration with her husband and fellow artist, Edgar Parin d'Aulaire. Born Ingri Mortenson in Kongsburg, Norway, she studied art in Norway, Germany and France, and met Edgar Parin d'Aulaire when she was a student in Munich. During the next several years, he drifted, worked at several jobs, was briefly jailed for cattle rustling, served in the army, and began selling his sketches and in 1922 sold his first writing, Bucking Horse Riders. Born in Rotterdam, he went to the United States in 1903 to study at Cornell University. He was a correspondent during the Russian Revolution of 1905 and in Belgium in 1914 at the start of World War I. He later became a professor of history at Cornell University (1915-17) and in 1919 became an American citizen.
From the 1910s until his death, Van Loon wrote many books. Most widely known among these is The Story of Mankind, a history of the world especially for children, which won the first Newbery Medal in 1922. The book was later updated by Van Loon and has continued to be updated, first by his son and later by other historians.

Počeo se baviti boksom u Dubrovniku. Meč karijere imao je u Dubrovniku, 11. travnja 1943. protiv prvaka Italije Lodovica Giobbija. Pobijedio ga je, što se slavilo kao pobjeda nad Talijanima, koji su u to vrijeme za Drugog svjetskog rata okupirali Dalmaciju. Slijedećeg dana, talijanske vlasti su ga zatvorile na neko vrijeme u tvrđavu Lovrijenac.
Bio je prvak Hrvatske u boksu 1945.. Poslije Drugog svjetskog rata, imao je meč s višestrukim olimpijskim pobjednikom, mađarskim boksačem Lászlóm Pappom. -
