Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa widely known by the pen name Kuvempu was a Kannada writer and poet, widely regarded as the greatest poet of 20th century Kannada literature. He is immortalised by some of his phrases, and in particular for his contribution to Universal Humanism or in his own words Vishwa maanavataa Vaada. He has penned the Karnataka State anthem Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate.

A.N. Murthy Rao

Akkihebbalu Narasimha Murthy Rao was a Kannada author.

Though popular for his atheistic thoughts and writings, he has also written dramas, short stories and in addition headed a couple of government assignments. He was the first director of the Kannada & Sanskriti Department, spearheaded by Kengal Hanumanthaiah.

Born at Akkihebbalu in (Mandya District), he studied in Mysore and later taught English at Mysore University. He was the first Director of Kannada and Culture Department of the Karnataka Government and also presided over the 56th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in 1984.

He died on 23rd August 2003 living a full life of 103 years.

Sudha Murty was born in 1950 in Shiggaon in north Karnataka. She did her MTech in computer science, and is now the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. 'ತಳುಕು ರಾಮಸ್ವಾಮಯ್ಯ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಯ' ಅವರು ಕನ್ನಡದ ಮೊದಲ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾದ ತಳುಕಿನ ವೆಂಕಣ್ಣಯ್ಯನವರ ತಮ್ಮನವರ ಮಗ. ಇವರು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ೧೯೧೯ರಲ್ಲಿ. ಅವರು ಬರೆದ 'ನಾಗರಹಾವು' ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯಲ್ಲಿನ ರಾಮಾಚಾರಿಯ ಪಾತ್ರದಂತೆಯೇ ಅವರು ಛಲದ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದವರು. ಬಹಳ ಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವಿಸಿದವರು. ಇವರ ಕೃತಿಗಳಾದ ಕಂಬನಿಯ ಕುಯಿಲು, ರಕ್ತರಾತ್ರಿ, ಮತ್ತು ತಿರುಗುಬಾಣ, ಚಿತ್ರದುರ್ಗದ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ರಸವತ್ತಾಗಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿವೆ ಎಂದು ವಿಮರ್ಶಕರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ ೧೦, ೧೯೮೪ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೃದಯಾಘಾತವಾಗಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ರಾಜಾಜಿನಗರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ 'ವರಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ಹೋಂ'ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧನ ಹೊಂದಿದರು.

A.N. Murthy Rao

Akkihebbalu Narasimha Murthy Rao was a Kannada author.

Though popular for his atheistic thoughts and writings, he has also written dramas, short stories and in addition headed a couple of government assignments. He was the first director of the Kannada & Sanskriti Department, spearheaded by Kengal Hanumanthaiah.

Born at Akkihebbalu in (Mandya District), he studied in Mysore and later taught English at Mysore University. He was the first Director of Kannada and Culture Department of the Karnataka Government and also presided over the 56th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in 1984.

He died on 23rd August 2003 living a full life of 103 years.

ಮಾಸ್ತಿ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ ಅಯ್ಯಂಗಾರರು ಕನ್ನಡದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಅಪ್ರತಿಮ ಲೇಖಕರು. ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಸ್ತಿ ಎಂದೇ ಖ್ಯಾತರಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ಎಂಬ ಕಾವ್ಯನಾಮದಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿದರು. ಅನೇಕ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆದ ಮಾಸ್ತಿ 'ಸಣ್ಣ ಕಥೆಗಳ ಜನಕ' ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಪ್ರತಿಮ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಕೃಷಿಯಿಂದಾಗಿ 'ಮಾಸ್ತಿ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಆಸ್ತಿ' ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಚಲಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಕೊಡಗಿನ ಕಡೆಯ ರಾಜ ಚಿಕವೀರ ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಬರೆದ 'ಚಿಕವೀರ ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ' ಎಂಬ ಕೃತಿಗೆ ೧೯೮೩ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಲಭಿಸಿತು.
