Gurgen Mahari

Gurgen Mahari (Gurgen Grigori Ajemian) was an Armenian writer and poet.

In 1915 during the Armenian genocide Gurgen's family emigrated to Russia. His first book, Titanic was published in 1924. Then he wrote his autobiographical trilogy which tells his story of survivor and the tragedy experienced by Armenians in Western Armenia.

He was arrested by Soviet secret police at the period of Stalinism and released after Joseph Stalin's death (Mahari was sentenced to 10 years' confinement in 1937, returned in 1947 and one year later exiled again).

Muratsan

Muratsan (orig. Grigor Ter-Hovanissian, December 1, 1854 , Shushi - September 12, 1908 , Tbilisi) was an Armenian writer, the author of "Gevorg Marzpetuni", an historical novel (1896) set in Armenia in the 10th century.

Muratsan studied at Shushi diocese school, then moved to Tiflis (Tbilisi), where he worked as a teacher and accountant and remained for the rest of his life. He became famous after the production of his historical drama "Ruzan" at a Tiflis theatre in 1882. He was the author of many short-stories and novels, including "The Apostle" (1902). An intensely nationalistic writer, Muratsan was a nineteenth-century romantic in style and an advocate of traditional cultural and religious values.

Pitigrilli

Pitigrilli was the pseudonym for Dino Segre (9 May 1893 - 8 May 1975), an Italian writer who made his living as a journalist and novelist. His most noted novel was Cocaïne (1921), published under his pseudonym and placed on the "forbidden books" list by the Catholic Church because of his treatment of drug use and sex. It has been translated into several languages and re-issued in several editions. Pitigrilli published novels up until 1974, the year before his death.

Henri Verneuil

Henri Verneuil (was a French-Armenian playwright and filmmaker. Henri Verneuil was born Ashod Malakian to Armenian parents in Rodosto, East Thrace, Turkey. When Ashod was a little child his family moved to France and settled in Marseille. He later recounted his childhood experience in the novel Mayrig, which he dedicated to his mother and made into a 1991 film with the same name, which was followed by a sequel, 588 Rue Paradis, the following year.
Henri Verneuil entered the Ecole Nationale d'Arts et Metiers in Aix-en-Provence in 1942. After graduation, he worked as a journalist, then became editor of Horizon Armenian magazine.
