Clare Azzopardi

Clare Azzopardi (1977) is an award-winning writer who writes for both children and adults. She is the Head of Department of Maltese at the University of Malta Junior College and for the past several years has been an active member of Inizjamed, an NGO whose mission is to promote literature in Malta and abroad. With Inizjamed, she has co-organised literary festivals and workshops, often in collaboration with Literature Across Frontiers (LAF). Her work has been translated into several languages and has appeared in a number of collections including Transcript, In Focus, Cúirt 21, Skald, Words without Borders and Novel of the World. Her play L-Interdett Taħt is-Sodda was published in French (Éditions Théâtrales, 2008) and in Arabic (I-ACT, 2009

Immanuel Mifsud

Immanuel Mifsud was born in Malta in 1967, the youngest in a working class family of eight children.

He started writing poetry at age 16, when he co-founded the literary group Versarti. At that same age he began to work in experimental theatre groups, directing his own plays and later he directed plays by Chekhov, Dario Fo, Max Frisch, Federico Garcia Lorca, David Mamet, Harold Pinter and Alfred Buttigieg.

Antoine Cassar

Born in London to Maltese parents in 1978, Antoine Cassar grew up between England, Malta and Spain, and worked and studied in Italy, France and Luxembourg. In 2004, after a thirteen-year absence from the Maltese islands, he returned to Qrendi, the village of his family, to re-learn a language he had long forgotten.

A writer of Maltese, English and multilingual verse, in 2008 he represented Malta at the Puglia Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée, and recited his poetry with Nabil Salameh of the Italo-Palestinian musical band Radiodervish. His book Mużajk, an exploration in multilingual verse (Ed. Skarta, 2008) was presented at the Leipzig Book Fair and at the poetry festivals of Copenhagen and Berlin.

Ryan Falzon

Ryan Falzon (b.1988) is a visual artist, author and educator based in Malta, Europe. In both his visual and literary works, Falzon's preoccupations are millenial generation, relevance to time and space, the grey areas of love and virtual presence. Falzon's much anticipated debut novel, SAJF, was published in November 2022. The novel was exceptionally reviewed by local critics and avid readers alike, labelling SAJF as a voice of a generation.

SAJF was shortlisted for National Book Prize 2023. In 2024, Falzon was awarded the National Emergent Author award by the NBC.

Karl Schembri

Karl Schembri, born in 1978, is a novelist and poet who branched out of investigative journalism into the humanitarian field, all the while maintaining a healthy literary output. His first published work appeared in 1997 with the self-published poetry anthology Frekwenzi ta’ Spirti fis-Sakra (Frequencies of Drunken Spirits).
