Ashley Marie Mireles is an author and publishing professional living in California’s Central Valley. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators as well as the co-chair of IBPA’s DEI Committee and currently serves on the IBPA Board of Directors. She has published over 13 children’s books including 100 First Words for Little Californians, O is for Ocean, S is for Snow, Rock Legends Who Changed the World, and Little Fingers Ballet. As a child, she could be found in the local library or participating in the Young Author’s Fair. It was this early love of books that lead her to her career in publishing.

W. Awdry

Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.

The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Jim Aylesworth

Jim Aylesworth was born in Jacksonville, Florida but as an infant moved from the state. He lived in many places during his childhood: Alabama, Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas... but by the time Aylesworth was 15 his family had settled in Hinsdale, Illinois and that is where he graduated from high school in 1961.

In 1965, he graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a B.A. in English. He returned to Hinsdale and began a career as a stockbroker. Gillian Shields

Gillian Shields was born and brought up in Yorkshire, in the north of England. As she grew up, she had two passions:books and theater. Gillian’s love of books led her to read English at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge. After university she studied acting in London. She then taught in a drama school, the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts, for several years, becoming Vice Principal.
