Arturo Barea

Arturo Barea nació en Badajoz el 20 de septiembre de 1897. Su padre trabajaba en el servicio de reclutamiento y murió a los 34 años. Su madre y hermanos se trasladaron a Madrid donde ella trabajó de lavandera. Barea fue educado al principio por unos tíos acomodados (su madre y hermanos siguieron con su vida humilde), pero al morir también el tío, dejó los estudios a los trece años. Trabajó de aprendiz en un comercio, y más tarde en un banco hasta 1914. Le llamaron a filas en 1920 y tuvo que ir a Marruecos, donde vivió la derrota de Annual en 1921.
Se casó en 1924 con Aurelia Rimaldos, y tuvo cuatro hijos, pero el matrimonio no fue afortunado y terminó separándose.

Ryszard Kapuściński

Ryszard Kapuściński debuted as a poet in Dziś i jutro at the age of 17 and has been a journalist, writer, and publicist. In 1964 he was appointed to the Polish Press Agency and began traveling around the developing world and reporting on wars, coups and revolutions in Asia, the Americas, and Europe; he lived through twenty-seven revolutions and coups, was jailed forty times, and survived four death sentences. During some of this time he also worked for the Polish Secret Service, although little is known of his role.

Camilo José Cela

Camilo José Cela Trulock was a Spaniard writer from Galicia. Prolific author (as a novelist, journalist, essayist, literary magazine editor, lecturer ...), he was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy for 45 years and won, among others, the Prince of Asturias Prize for Literature in 1987, the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1989 ("for a rich and intensive prose, which with restrained compassion forms a challenging vision of man's vulnerability.") and the Cervantes Prize in 1995.
